The K-State Extension Pesticide Safety and IPM Program hosts various learning opportunities and has developed innovative resources to help individuals learn more about entomology, weed identification, and IPM concepts.
Insect Art Contest
Our annual insect-themed art contest promotes fun and learning within the world of insects. Each year a new theme is selected, encouraging participants of all ages and skill levels to learn more about a specific group of insects before creating artwork to fit the contest theme.
Educational Card Games
Cards feature photo illustrations and examples of control tactics to prevent or manage pests. It provides a visual representation of cultural, biological, mechanical and chemical controls used in IPM. The IPM controls are represented through each card suit, which helps differentiate and define the IPM principles. A game like "Crazy Eights" may be played, where the objective is to be the first player to discard all of their cards. This resource would be great for agronomists, extension agents, pesticide applicators, and agriculture students.

Cards feature art created by Kansas youth selected from the 2020 IPM Insect Art Contest. We truly have some talented artists in the state, and this is a fantastic way to highlight their art! A game like "Old Maid" may be played, where the objective is to help the Wacky Entomologist match all the insects and not get stuck holding the spider. This resource would be great for summer camps, elementary school teachers, art lovers, and anyone who has insect-loving youth.

Games may be played to teach identification skills in an interactive manner. This resource would be great for agronomists, extension agents, and agriculture students.
